Woolley’s Farm

This landscape was painted in 2016 for the artist’s exhibition at Flagstaff Gallery. It show’s a view of the farmland with the viewer’s back to Woolleys Bay Beach, showing Woolleys Farm, near Northland on the North Island of New Zealand. There are paddocks in foreground running up into the hills and beyond, and the valley is captured by the hills on the left and right.

“It’s a simplistic way of capturing the landscape in clean colours.” Higham has been staying on the beach next to this farm for many years. “Mr Woolley the farmer leases the batch on the beach out. I went there for the first time while in secondary school with a couple of my mates. Some years later we caught up again and a group of us shared the lease while our kids were growing up.” The batch is still standing. Acrylic on canvas, 2016.
